Project Overview

PTM Consultants partnered with Auckland Transport to deliver a package of six community safety projects across Auckland, including a new 650m footpath and pedestrian refuge on Vipond Road, and four Community Network Improvement (CNI) sites in Milford, Takapuna, Glendowie, and Te Atatū. These projects responded to long-standing community requests for safer pedestrian facilities, particularly for school children and public transport users.

Vipond Road (Stanmore Bay)

  • Delivered the investigation and detailed design of a new continuous footpath (650m) to connect residents safely to existing walking routes.
  • Designed a pedestrian refuge crossing with associated bus stop relocations to provide a safer crossing point for school children, families, and commuters.
  • Provided technical solutions for challenging conditions such as steep driveways, embankments, and visibility constraints, ensuring compliance with Auckland Unitary Plan standards.

Community Network Improvements (North Shore & West Auckland)

  • Sanders Avenue, Takapuna – pedestrian improvements near Lake Road to address high foot traffic and substandard crossing facilities.
  • Kitchener Road, Milford – new pedestrian refuge crossing with relocated bus stops for safer access to public transport.
  • Glencoe Road, Glendowie – zebra crossing with kerb realignment to improve safety on a steep and constrained corridor.
  • Harbour View & Pringle Road, Te Atatū – upgraded crossings, including a raised zebra, to slow traffic and improve safety at a busy local intersection.

Across all six projects, PTM provided:

  • Site investigations and surveys to capture pedestrian behaviour, safety risks, and technical constraints.
  • Scheme and detailed design drawings, including stormwater, lighting, and accessibility considerations.
  • Resolution reports and approvals support to progress designs through Auckland Transport's internal and external review processes.
  • Construction readiness with full documentation and set-out plans for implementation.

By successfully completing these projects, PTM helped Auckland Transport deliver safer and more accessible pedestrian routes. For our clients, this demonstrates PTM's ability to manage complex, multi-site programmes, balancing technical requirements with practical, community-focused outcomes.
