The Sharkey Street / Cavendish Drive project was about more than just roadworks – it was about unlocking safer, easier journeys for the students, staff, and wider Manukau community moving to and from AUT South Campus every day.
PTM Consultants were entrusted to lead the transport design, weaving together the practical needs of traffic efficiency with the deeper goal of creating a people-first environment. Working closely with Auckland Transport, AUDO (formerly Eke Panuku), and local stakeholders, we helped shape a street that feels safer, more inviting, and better connected.
What makes this project special is how it sits at the heart of Manukau's regeneration. By improving the cycling and walking experience, we've supported healthier, low-carbon travel choices while ensuring the public realm reflects the vibrancy of the community.
The outcome is a corridor that does more than move cars – it brings people together, encourages students to choose active modes, and strengthens the link between AUT and its surrounding neighbourhood.
